Hi everybody,

Here's where I will keep, those of you interested, up to date with the development of the next CineGobs keyer.

CineGobs keyer version 3 will be very different to earlier versions, and therefore the goal may change a lot along the way!

Originally I was working on the next beta. The next version would include 3 color-difference keyers to allow you to remove extra colors, from tracking markers or uneven backgrounds etc. (requested be ericsh6). After working on it for some time I started to feel that CineGobs keyer was beginning to feel a bit bloated and cluttered. There were way too many tabs and most people seemed to use only a few. Furthermore the new different keyer tabs were containing so many parameters that is was practically impossible to fit them all into the current user interface.

It was time to rethink both the UI as well as the modularity of the software. I wanted fast, easy to use controls, and within as little screen space as possible. The other major change I wanted was dynamically instancing of keyer, pre, and post modules.

I've been working on this for some time now, but still have a long way to go.

Here's a screenshot of the new compact user interface(inspired a bit by After Effects). This is how a single keyer module could look. The module takes up very little space and can be collapsed to show only the header.

These modules can be added to your project. This means that you only see the modules you actually use and that you can add as many copies of the same module as you need.

This also is a great advantage for the development, as it's much easier for me to create new modules than to add something to the existing code today.

Btw. I'm considering to release alphas of version 3.

I'll post a new topic when I have more news.

Sounds great Bo! I look forward to seeing it.

I was thinking today how single button keyboard shortcuts would greatly enhance speed when toggling the Color Difference and Roto buttons on/off while rotoscoping. I do this sometimes so I can roto speedily with no Color difference matte active, then toggle it on to see the final result. (Perhaps the NUMpad since it's closeby the arrow keys, or the regular number keys if the WSAD buttons were used for up/down/left/right navigation.) This might be a cool feature in the future edition. I've put it on my list.

I wish somehow there could be a feature to assign certain rotoscope vertices to follow a color or reference point on the video (to save time moving every point every frame), but not sure how impossible that would be to program.

I think also the frame slider would be easier to use if it was longer, had markings on it, and also indicated for each frame that had or didn't have a keyframe set on it yet. But this is just an aesthetic issue.

The new interface looks great though so far. I personally use most of the buttons/tabs in CineGobs, but it wouldn't hurt to simplify the whole thing. It's already easier to use than any other rotoscoping tool I've used (and it's free too!)

I have thought about using motion tracking to assist with rotoscoping, but it's pretty complex. I'll put it on the feature request list though.

Yes, it could really use a proper timeline control. Already on the feature request list.

Great. Another very important thing of the new interface, is that it will be much easier for me to implement new functionality (and therefore much more likely Wink)
