I have gotten my image up with the background transparent, but when I render and save it, the background is still there. What format should I be using when saving for the green background to be gone?

Export to a format supporting alpha channel. F.inst. PNG image sequence or uncompressed avi.

Bo, I "think" I am doing as you say and the video has a checkered pattern as the background and the checkered background is still there when I export to a MOV file, but when I load into imovie, the checkered backgound shows up! What am I doing wrong??

@Galena – I'm not sure if this is what you after – I am using windows XP so you may have to convert the final file to a MOV after these steps – however this is what I do and it works for me:

>go to 'preview' tab

>under the line 'background' and 'load image/video' click on the drop

down menu to "Image/Video from file"

>go to the 'Output' tab

> under "Image channels" choose 'Preview' from the drop down box
(make sure you choose 'preview'!) and under "Output type" choose "AVI (single file)"

>File > Render and Save Video

> name your video and save

>When you start saving you will get the render/save box – wait until it starts loading and then you will get a "video compression" box – make sure you click OK  on "Full Frames Uncompressed" ….it should save and play with the background and not checkered pattern…let me know if I am on the wrong track…

As I stated in my other post, I could not find a way to convert from the avi single file to mov and retain the transparent background. See my post under "mechanics —"
